Smoke Break is a timing round disguised as a race. Each player tries to complete successful puffs without holding too long and coughing. The reliable approach is a controlled pull, a complete exhale, and a clean reset before starting the next cycle.
How Smoke Break Works
Current community guides describe a simultaneous 2–4 player round in which successful puffs add to your total. Hold too long and your character coughs, costing time that a steadier player can use for another clean cycle. The player with the lowest successful-puff total is reported as the loser when the round resolves.
Those scoring details are cross-checked community observations, not a recorded developer rules page. The broad minigame roster is also listed in Destructoid’s Machine Party guide.
A Reliable Puff Rhythm
- Start with a medium pull. Do not search for the absolute maximum hold on your first cycle.
- Release before the cough threshold. A slightly shorter successful pull preserves more time than a greedy pull followed by recovery.
- Let the exhale finish. Starting the next input while the current cycle is still resolving can break your rhythm.
- Repeat the same timing. Once a cycle completes cleanly, use it as your baseline rather than stretching every pull.
- Adjust in small steps. If you are behind, shorten the dead time between completed cycles before lengthening the risky part of the pull.
What to Do After a Cough
A cough already costs time; panic should not cost the next cycle too. Release the input, wait for the animation and breathing state to settle, then restart with the last known safe timing. Trying to compensate with an immediately longer pull is the fastest way to cough twice.
Multiplayer Strategy
- Use your own cycle as the clock. Another player’s pace can make a safe pull feel slow, but copying it without knowing their timing adds risk.
- Listen for your recovery state. The room is noisy, so pair the character’s visible exhale with the audio cue instead of relying on only one signal.
- Protect completed puffs. A clean total is more valuable than a single maximal hold if the long hold interrupts the next attempt.
- Increase pace between pulls first. Remove hesitation after a full exhale before extending the hold itself.
Full Pack Achievement
Current achievement references list Full Pack as smoking 20 cigarettes in total. Treat it as a cumulative goal rather than a requirement to finish all 20 in one round or one session; the available evidence does not support a same-round condition. Learn a repeatable safe cycle first, then let normal rounds build the total.
Common Mistakes
- Holding every pull until the last possible moment.
- Starting another pull before the exhale finishes.
- Matching another player’s rhythm instead of reading your own animation.
- Following one cough with a longer compensation pull.
- Treating the 20-cigarette achievement as a single-round quota.

Verification note
Checked 2026-08-26. The current evidence log does not record a tested game build number or a play-session count. Pull timing, cough recovery, and scoring are cross-checked against current community minigame guides; exact thresholds and mode-specific behavior remain unclaimed. Recheck after a verified update or confirmed mechanics change.
